February Program

 “Dawg” Show 2010 – Schedule below.

 

Horticulture Division

Section 1 – Any type or size violet except trailers

      Class 1 – The Mutt-a long necked critter (longest necked violet wins this class).

     Class 2 - King of the K-9’s – a many crowed dawg; this is for non-trailing plants only with more than one crown. Most suckers win this class.

     Class 3 – Most under potted or over potted violet.

     Class 4 – Golden retriever – light colored leaves on non-variegated violet.

     Class 5 – Dirty Dawg – Your clothes dryer’s lint trap is cleaner than this dog. Lint, hair, soil or fertilizer spots on leaves.

 Section II – Trailing violets and other gesneriads only.

      Class 1 – Any trailing violet fitting any class in section 1.

     Class 2 – any gesneriad.

 

General Rules

Rule 1 – plant must be alive.

Rule 2 – Flowers are optional. (In a show, flowers are required except for project plants)

Rule 3 – No active disease or pests.

Rule 4 – No more than one entry per class per person; but enter as many classes as you wish.

Rule 5 – Any color pot is O.K. (In our show, only white/green pots are allowed & slip potting is desirable.

Rule 6 – Any size or type violet may be entered on Section 1, except trailing violets. Only trailing violets and other gesneriads may be entered in Section II.

Rule 7 – Winners and losers must be collected at the end of the evening.


 

  Recipe Corner

Applesauce Cake submitted by Reba Spencer


1 ½ applesauce                                     ½ tsp. nutmeg                                      1 cup sugar

2 tsp. Baking soda                                  ½ cup shortening                                  1 ½ cups flour

1 cup raisins                                           Pinch of salt                                          1 tsp. cinnamon

Chopped nuts                                         ½ tsp cloves

 

Cream shortening and sugar together. Stir in applesauce. Sift dry ingredients together and add. Stir in raisins and nuts. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 25 min. in a 9” square pan.
